Top 3 Best VPNs For Netflix & Hulu 2018-2019

Netflix has different media libraries depending on your location. The one with the most content is the US Netflix library. If you are not in the United States, the only way to access it is through a VPN service. But Netflix and other streaming services like Hulu or Amazon Prime do attempt to block VPN services. However VPNs in turn find ways around these blocks, and it ends up being a bit like a game of whac-a-mole.

In this article and video above we’re going to take a look at some VPN services that currently work on Netflix and most likely many other streaming services as well.

# Name Total Servers US Servers Protocols Payment Cost Rating
1 Private Internet Access 3000+ 1600+ OpenVPN, PPTP, L2TP, Socks5 Paypal, Bitcoin, credit cards $3.33/mo 9/10
2 NordVPN 1000+ 300+ OpenVPN, IKEv2, Socks5 Paypal, Bitcoin, credit cards $5.75/mo 8.5/10
3 Vanished VPN Unknown Unknown PPTP, L2TP Credit cards $8.33/mo 7/10

#1 Private Internet Access

Private Internet Access Best VPN for Netflix

At the top of the list we have Private Internet Access, which is based in the United States.

Private Internet Access is the most cost effective solution if you want a VPN mainly to access Netflix from abroad, particularly the US library. PIA has over 3000 servers all across the world, with more than 1600 in the United States alone.

Basically PIA has more servers in the US than most VPN services have altogether. So the chances are that many of these VPN servers are not blocked by Netflix. I tried it out and the first server I tried was blocked, but then I tried a few more and I was able to successfully access Netflix with all other servers without any errors.

You can get PIA for as little as $3.33 per month, if you sign up for a one year subscription, which would be $39.95 altogether. This comes with a 7 day money back guarantee. They don’t have any free accounts or trials. Check the video description for links to sign up!

As I already said, PIA has over 3000 servers worldwide in 25 countries,. They also support multiple VPN protocols including OpenVPN, PPTP and L2TP over IPSec. Additionally they have servers with Socks5 support, which can be used as proxies in individual apps like web browsers rather than encrypting your entire connection.

A paid subscription also comes with unlimited data, and the connection speeds on PIA servers are very good. I tested some servers in both the North America and Europe.

Overall PIA offers a very good VPN service to access or unblock Netflix and other streaming services.

#2 NordVPN

In second place we have Panama based NordVPN.

NordVPN is a very good service for unblocking Netflix and other streaming services. They have over 1000 servers globally with several hundred in the United States.

I tried multiple servers in the US to access Netflix with NordVPN, and I did not encounter any problems, none of the ones I tested were blocked by Netflix.

NordVPN has over 1000 servers in 56 countries which support OpenVPN and IKEv2 over IPsec VPN protocols. They have a number of Socks5 servers for proxy support as well.

A paid subscription for NordVPN costs $5.75 per month for an annual subscription, so $69 together. This comes with a 30 day money back guarantee if you are not satisfied with the service. If you want to support the channel, sign up via the link in the description!

With this subscription you get access to all of their servers with unlimited data. I tested connection speeds in both North America and Europe, and they all were very good. In terms of privacy and security, I’d say NordVPN is a bit better than PIA as it is not based in the United States.

NordVPN is a very good choice for a Netflix VPN, and also quite good if you intend to use your VPN for other things as well such as torrenting.

#3 Vanished VPN

Vanished VPN

Next up we have Vanished VPN, which is based in Australia.

It is a small and quite new VPN service that opened its doors in 2016. But it has been going strong for about a year now, and I did include it in my previous Netflix VPN top list.

Vanished is actually not a general VPN, but instead they are specialized in unblocking streaming services and they do it quite well. And I can indeed confirm that US Netflix still works through their service. I tried out their US server using PPTP and it worked just fine. Other than PPTP they also support the L2TP VPN protocol.

One downside with Vanished VPN is that they don’t have a custom VPN client, you have to actually manually set up your VPN connection. But this is quite easy to do through the integrated VPN client on Windows. They do also have step by step instructions on their website on how to do it on multiple operating systems including mobile devices and gaming consoles.

Vanished VPN costs $8.33 per month for the annual plan, and $11.99 for the monthly plan. According to their terms and conditions, they are not required to provide a refund but it also states that full refunds can be provided in the first 30 days of your subscription. They also have no free trials by default, however if you contact them, they might give you one. It’s a bit confusing to be honest, they should try to make their refund and free trial policy a bit more clear and visible in my opinion.

Vanished is still a decent option for a Netflix and streaming VPN.
